Venezuelans Leaving for Columbia in Droves

People are crossing the border to Colombia for food and supplies, but also medical services not currently available or affordable in the South American nation suffering from heavy debt and 400x inflation.

Some hospitals have seen ER admissions jump 50% in the past year. In addition to all classes of trauma, Venezuelan women arrive after their water has broken to deliver.

Many Venezuelans (around 100k this year estimated) are also trying to make a go of life in Colombia, despite not having citizenship and therefore not having the same access to jobs and resources as nationals. Deportations, however, are rare, which causes other issues, like increased unemployment levels in Colombian cities and other economic destabilization due to the very low wages Venezuelans are willing to work for there just to get by.

Venezuelan Protests Continue

Citizens are protesting the government after a March 20 attempt by the country's highest court to dissolve the national assembly, which would in turn weaken President Maduro's opponents.
